pit garage

ok here we have a pit garage made out of hard wood,
sorry no pics of in between stages only finished result, which also now has little battery operated lights in each garage area which looks pretty cool.

Im pretty pleased with result and next to pit lane track from e bay for few pounds, really sets off the effect your looking for,
ok next up is a dunlop control tower and cross over found this on ebay,
now the start price on this was a £150,
so i set about trying to make my own and this is what i ended up with,

Not a bad result. and the little blue lights are cool in the dark,

Here we have a track side  marshal or time keeping hut,
and then my attempt,

Ok not too bad pretty pleased with it the textured paper is just from google images the printed out to scale
and then glued on,
all the little figures and cars are all bought from boot sales or e bay dont think i have any thing bought brand new,
The thing to remember about bidding on ebay is prime time, especialy if you want bargains, remember some people make a living by selling things on e bay, so if you want bargains avoid the prime time, which as far as i worked out is tuesday to thursday from 6pm to 9pm, sellers try to aim for there articles to be ending within thease times as most people are on line between thease hours,
I have won scalextric cars on a monday afternoon for 99p, cause no one is shopping at thease times,
also very late at night past midnight you can pick up some real bargains.
And the whole point of this blog is for a set up as cheaply as i can,,,,so stay tuned.......

buildings

one thing that makes your scalextric racing more fun is scenery and buildings,
but  thease can be so exspensive, even second hand.
so the best is to make your own, for my table top set ups i made half a dozen pit garages stands burger bars out of cardboard, but they only lasted a few montha and then get batterd and worn,

so the best option is to make them out of wood , now im not a model maker by any means but i am pleased with what i finished up with,
here is a simple refreshment stand.

ok its not fantastic but fill it with adverts and you get the desired effect.

here is a spectator stand made out of lollypop sticks and plant labels.

welcome

Hi all,
i just love racing scalextric, but biggest problem is setting up an after couple of days either on living room
floor or kitchen table you haveto pack it all away, so what most of us dream about is a permanent set up in garden shed or the loft,
Here is a set up on the wifes kitchen table, so as you can imagine about four days is the limit before she wants her table back,

so the point of this blog is to track the progress of my loft conversion to a permanent set up of my circuit,
now  also because i am a husband an father to four children this will also be done on a budget, the best results i can get as cheaply as possible,  now everything is bought either on e bay carboot sales, or made myself, so hopefully this project will give you good ideas to  either copy or expand on to make your own track.

things im going to cover with pics an video if poss will be
1 the loft conversion
2 table top
3 track layout
4 scenery landscape

Ok so here we have the loft area, that beam going across is about waist height an from that beam back to the wall is just over six foot an from left to right is 13 foot also from the right side comming out this way is about 7 foot so we will end up with an L circuit,

first thing is lighting i mannaged to get an 8 foot long flourescent tube light free as a freind was replacing his lights in his workshop, i love that word free, and hopefully will be able to say it lots on this project,

also when i lifted up insulation very lucky the floor was allready boarded so this lagging will go in between the roof joists behind silver bubble wrap which will also help with lighting.
